History behind the artwork

Abel had multiple experiences, in his childhood home, within the Oaxacan community.

The experiences he had in the countryside, are those that give motives to daily subjects for multiple works, described in a very personal way by the author.

In this specific painting we meet Aunt Lolita; one of Abel’s favorite relatives.

She is portrayed at the moment in which she transmits to the artist the knowledge of the pitaya or “tuna” harvest.

With a stick, she respectfully takes the fruits, placing them directly in the baskets so she won’t prick her hands.

This is an activity that marked the author, because it seemed to him an almost spiritual process.
