History behind the artwork

During the 80’s, Abel developed a series of projects in hand-woven tapestry, in collaboration with the master artisan Esther Ortiz Gurani.

The ideas for this collection were gradually put together. First with sketches on a paper, playing a little with the invention of characters. Then these took color in beautiful watercolor pieces, and after a while defined as part of the tapestry projects.

Each of the pieces of this production took approximately 6 months of work. It was necessary to choose the fibers, textures, dyes and natural tones of the material, to achieve the language of the artist (author of the project), in complete connection with the process of the master artisan.

During his process, there were people who saw how the drawings were transformed into paintings, and then into fabrics that gradually acquired their final shape. One of them commented when she saw the finished piece, “I saw this one born”. Hence the name of this piece.

Some of the pieces from this production, are already part of private collections in the United States and Mexico.
