History behind the artwork

The ancestral stories and the sacred books of the Mayan, are fertile material to fire the imagination of the artist.

In this work of great dimensions we can find the interpretation of gods, and spirits of men and elements of nature.

The priest is portrayed connected to the wind and the elements on earth.

In the upper part, we see the representation of the cosmos with a figure that could be a Ceiba tree (a sacred plant).

In the center, the deer hunt, where the two parts of the hunter’s personality meet; on one hand, the wild part that kills just for killing and on the other, the part linked to his gratitude for food in a passive and ceremonial way.

Abel represents the spirit of things, the sound of the wind, the trill of the birds; using the pictorial material with transparencies and superimpositions of color and texture in concrete forms. He narrates a story, introducing the spectator in, and letting be wrapped in that atmosphere.
